Temple History

Grishneshwar Temple, also known as Ghushmeswara, is the twelfth and last Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva. Located just 30 kilometers from Aurangabad and barely a kilometer from the famous Ellora Caves, this ancient temple holds immense religious significance. The present structure was built in the 18th century by Ahilyabai Holkar, the queen of Indore. The temple showcases exquisite architectural elements of the Bhumija style, with intricate carvings and sculptures adorning its walls. The temple structure is built using red rocks and stands 240 feet in height and 185 feet wide, with a unique feature of having the smallest Jyotirlinga among all 12 sites.
