Garhwal Himalayas, Uttarakhand, India
Kedarnath Temple, situated at an altitude of 3,583 meters (11,755 ft), is one of the most sacred Jyotirlingas and part of the Char Dham pilgrimage. According to legend, the temple was built by the Pandavas and revived by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century CE. The present structure dates to over 1000 years old. The temple is a magnificent example of Himalayan temple architecture, built of extremely large, heavy, and evenly cut gray slabs of stone. Its survival of the 2013 flash floods is considered miraculous by devotees.
