Temple History

Trimbakeshwar Temple is one of the most revered 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, located at the source of the River Godavari. The temple, situated at the foot of Brahmagiri Hills, is an ancient Hindu temple in the town of Trimbak. The extraordinary feature of the Jyotirlinga here is that it has three faces, embodying Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Rudra. The temple was built by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao in 1730 AD and is constructed in the Nagara style of architecture. The temple is built out of black stone and is known for its exquisite sculptures and architectural grandeur. The shikhara (spire) of the temple is adorned with sculptures, and the sanctum sanctorum houses the unique three-faced Jyotirlinga.
